Senator DALY - The answers to the honorable senator's questions are as follow : -

1.   Yes.

2.   Yes; for refined sugar.

3.   Australian raw sugar is not exported to New Zealand. The raw sugar exported to Great Britain has, on account of abnormally low world's prices, been giving a net return recently of from £9 to £11 per ton.

4.   The present embargo will expire on the 31st August, 1931.

5.   Part of the Government's policy, on which it was elected, providedfor the renewal of the sugar embargo. Previous Ministries have not submitted the terms of renewal to Parliament, but the Government will give every consideration to the reasonable interests of Australian householders and all others concerned. The embargo has not enabled the Colonial Sugar Kenning Company Limited to makea profit of nearly £1,000,000 at the expense of Australian householders. Nearly half of that company's profits arc derived outside Australia, viz., from Fiji trade, and on a much smaller production than it handles in Australia.
