Senator CARROLL (WESTERN AUSTRALIA) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Works, upon notice -

1.   Is it a fact that when the contract was let for the erection of the Commonwealth Bank premises, Perth, an undertaking was given that local material would bc used wherever possible?

2.   Is it a fact that there arc manufacturers of fire-proof safes and strongroom doors in Perth whose manufactures arc extensively used by Western Australian Government departments, as well as by some of the associated banks trading in that State?

3.   If so, is it true that these manufacturers have received an intimation that it would be useless for them to tender for the bank's requirements, as their tenders would not be considered?

4.   If it is true, will the Minister have inquiries made with a view to having such discrimination removed?
