Senator H E ELLIOTT (VICTORIA) asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Is it a fact that a circular memorandum was, on the 22nd April, 1930, issued by the secretary of the Public Service Board to the effect that the Government has directed that on and from the 1st June, 1930, Public Service arbitration awards shall be restricted to members of the Public Service organizations concerned ?

2.   If so, is not this direction contrary to the existing Public Service regulations.

3.   Will the Minister obtain and lay upon the table of the Senate a copy of the circular referred to?

4.   Is it a fact that, pursuant to such circular, directions have been issued that action shall be immediately taken to obtain and record particulars of membership of the organizations verified by reference to such organizations?

5.   Have lists been asked for showing permanent and temporary officers and employees of the Commonwealth, indicating whether such officers and employees are members of any, and, if so, what unions?

6.   If so, what is the object of these lists?

7.   If a returned soldier is not a member of an organization is it intended - (a) thathe shall be dismissed, or (b) that he shall be paid less than the wage awarded by the Arbitration Court?
