Senator RUSSELL (Victoria) .- I went to inspect a drill hall recently erected in the district where I live, and was sorry to observe that 50 per cent, of the timber used in it was imported timber. Inasmuch as our defence system is based upon the patriotism of our youths, we ought to make a special endeavour to give employment to their fathers in the material which we use for construction purposes. No doubt, for certain specific purposes, imported timbers may be better, but at the same time, as far as possible, we ought to use Australian wood, especially in defence work. I trust that the Minister will pay particular attention to this matter.
