Senator MILLEN (New South Wales) (Minister of Defence) .- The officer to whom Senator Bakhap refers was obtained from the British Army for the purpose of advising the Government as to ordnance stores.

Senator Bakhap - I understood that he was to report particularly on the artillery of the Commonwealth.

Senator MILLEN - That was not his mission. The officer in question is now engaged upon his work, and in the preparation of his report. When that report has been received, we hope to be able to put our Defence Forces on a better footing. It is on that account that this item appears in the Bill.
