Senator McCOLL (Victoria) (VicePresident of the Executive Council) . - I believe that the plan which was in existence when the present Government came into office was a combination of Mr. Griffin's and various other plans. It was somewhat difficult to say how far Mr.Griffin's ideas were being followed. There was considerable 'confusion, and it was thought better, if the city was to be erected on right lines, to bring Mr. Griffin to Australia. Since he has been here he has been in constant communication with the Committee appointed by the late Government to consider the best plans for the Capital. Various points were in dispute, but the local experience of the Committee has been added to Mr. Griffin's knowledge of the original plan, and I believe that an understanding has now been arrived at as to how the work is to be done.
