Senator STEWART (Queensland) . - Will the Government consent to recommit the Bill so that I may attempt to graft an amendment on to one of the provisions which are down for amendment.

Senator McGregor - Certainly not.

The honorable senator has been trying in every way to delay the passage of the Bill.

Senator STEWART - I resent that statement.

Senator McGregor - You are quite welcome to resent it.

Senator STEWART - I have been trying to do the best I can for suffering people. The honorable senator seems to be completely callous. Will the Govern-, ment consent to -recommit the Bill so that I may have an opportunity to submit a proposal ?

Senator McGregor - No. You had an opportunity, and you did not succeed.

Senator STEWART - I had not advisers at my ear like the honorable senatorhas.

Senator McGregor - YOU have been for twenty-four hours delaying the Bill.

Senator STEWART - Of course, if the Government will not consent it will be of no use for me to persevere.

Senator Keating - The Government could not consent because the proposal isnot within the Order of Leave.

Bill reported without amendment; report adopted.
