Senator CHATAWAY asked the Minister representing the Minister of Home Affairs, upon notice -

1.   Are the molasses imported by Western Australia from Java and the Straits Settlements used for powellising timber?

2.   If so, why are not Australian molasses, produced by white labour, used instead of the imported coloured-labour-produced product?

3.   In making the contract with Western Australia for powellised karri sleepers, is it a condition that Australian molasses should be used -in the powellising process?
