Senator McGREGOR (South Australia) (Vice-President of the Executive Council) . - I think honorable senators will find that the peculiar circumstances pointed out by Senator Symon in relation to this Bill render the course which we are taking necessary. There is no other way of effecting our purpose. This is. the method which has been suggested by the AttorneyGeneral's Department. It has to be recollected that this is an amendment of an amending Bill, and that when the amendment has been made, these words will not appear as an amendment of the original Act. But when the original Act is brought uptodate the words which are supposed to be struck out of it will be struck out, and the words purporting to be inserted in it will be inserted. So that there will be no confusion in the mind of any person looking at the Act itself.
