Senator CHATAWAY (Queensland) . - I was returned by the electors of Queensland to maintain the Tariff, as far as possible, in the form in which it appeared in 1906. Since then certain vested interests have been created, and, in recording my vote, it will probably be necessary for me to take due notice of them. I think that the Government have made a mistake in introducing a number of amendments which do not appear to be absolutely necessary. But I shall deal with them when the schedule is under consideration.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Bill read a second time.

In Committee:

Clauses 1 to 4 agreed to.

Introductory paragraph and definitions agreed to.
