The CHAIRMAN - The Committee cannot postpone the consideration of an amendment.

Senator MILLEN - I suggest to the Minister that the better course for me to adopt is to ask leave to withdraw the amendment, and later, when the report stage is reached, it will be possible to recommit the Bill with a view to putting in the provision.

Senator Vardon - Will the Government consent to a recommittal ?

Senator MILLEN - If the Government are agreeable to my suggestion, with their majority they can insure a recommittal of the Bill for that purpose only. If, on the contrary, they are against the adoption of my suggestion, they can resist a motion to recommit the Bill.

Senator Pearce - What is the objection to a postponement?

Senator MILLEN - I want to know what we are going to postpone.
