Senator PLAYFORD - The answers to the honorable senator's questions are as follow : -

1.   The Prime Minister regrets to state that he is unable to show that any definite progress has been made in this matter. Repeated representations have been made, and the interests of Australia have been fully set forth!

2.   No. Pending the proposed convention be tween Great Britain and France, it is proposed to render assistance in another manner, and a vote appears on the Estimates for that purpose.

3.   Statements to that effect have been made.

4.   The correspondence being confidential, it will not be possible to comply with this request.
