Senator DRAKE (Queensland) .: - Would it not expedite proceedings if the divisional returning officers were allowed to send first merely the number of votes recorded, afterwards transmitting the in-, dorsed writ and the parcels of ballot papers ?

Senator Keating - As a matter of administration, the number of votes recorded will be notified by telegraph. The clause, refers to the formal return.
