Senator HIGGS (QUEENSLAND) asked the Minister representing the Minister of External Affairs, upon notice -

1.   Did Messrs. McLachlan, Allen, and Garran, the Board appointed to inquire into the case of Mr. Richmond, Government Surveyor of British New Guinea, examine personally in Melbourne any witnesses from New Guinea at any time during the period commencing 26th September, 1905, and ending 27th January, 1906?

2.   The name or names of any witnesses so examined ?

3.   Did any member of the said Board, during the period mentioned, have any conversation with any visitor from British New Guinea with regard to the Richmond case?

4.   The name or names of any officers of the British New Guinea Government service who visited Melbourne during the four months ended 27th January, 1906?
