Senator McGREGOR (South Australia) . - I hope that honorable senators will' allow the item to go as it is, because the sooner the Bill is returned to the other. House the earlier will the session be brought to a close. I would remind Senator Smith that the greater proportion of scents and' toilet preparations is spirit. A manufacturer pays an Excise duty of 10s. on a gallon of spirit, and, after adding the ingredients, puts the article upon the market at 25s., which is equal to a profit of nearly 15s. I think that he will be very well protected if the item is left as it is.
