Motion (by Senator Playford) proposed -

That the Senate do now adjourn.

Senator MILLEN(New South Wa les' [3.52]. - I should like to ask the Minister of Defence the question of which I gave notice, and which I was not in time to ask this morning. I desire to ask the Minister representing the Postmaster-General -

1.   Whether he has any information bearing upon the statements in the following cablegram appearing in the Argus of 29th inst. : -

Sir JosephWard said " The High Commissioner will be instructed to enter into negotiations in order to arrange that the steamers now being built for the Commonwealth mail service shall come direct from Adelaide to New Zealand."

x.   If so, will he impart it to the Senate.

I understand that the honorable senator is in possession of the answer to the question, and perhaps he will be good enough to impart it to the Senate now.

Senator Playford - The matter is in the hands of my honorable and learned colleague.
