Senator CROFT - I mean as to wages and conditions.

Senator Fraser - Immigrants are not children to be nursed !

Senator CROFT - That may be so, but I shall always raise my voice against immigrants being made slaves. If the Minister is opposed to the wording of the paragraph, I ask him to suggest some other means ofobtaining the information desired.

Senator Playford - A return may be moved for at any time.

Senator CROFT - That means making a special case of one employer, and we should be accused of holding him up to scorn, and exposing his business. That would be most unfair, if it should turn out that the employer had not been treating his men badly.

Senator Staniforth Smith - A return might be called for in regard to a particular industry.

Senator CROFT - But it would be known which employer was meant, because no action would be taken unless there was some publicoutcry. Unless the Minister makes some suggestion, I shall vote with Senator Givens.
