The PRESIDENT - The honorable senator ought not to argue the question.

Senator CLEMONS - I do not wish to argue the question, but merely to state the reasons why I take this course. It is most important that tenders should be invited at the earliest possible moment, and I desire to ask whether the Minister of Defence can assure us that they will be invited before the session is ended.

Senator PLAYFORD - The Government recognise the necessity of calling for tenders at the earliest possible date. I understand from the Postmaster-General that he is pushing on with the matter as expeditiously as possible, and certainly no time will be lost.
