Senator KEATING - The answers to the honorable senator's questions are as follow: -

1.   A number of telegraphists in Victoria classified at £120 per annum have, by the operation of section 19 of the State Act No. 1721, been paid at the rate of £130 per annum. Those who have not passed the efficiency test to enable them to advance to the next sub-division will receive the classification salary of£120 per annum, but those who have passed this qualifying examination will be advanced to £140 per annum.

2.   It is considered that the classification supersedes the State rates of salary ; but the matter can only be finally settled by judicial determination.
