Dr Everingham asked the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, upon notice, on 1 7 April 1 980:

Will the Government provide funds for an investigation along the lines proposed by Dr W. McBride to try to detect a cause of deformities in offspring of ex-servicemen exposed to mutagenic or teratogenic agents, including radiation.

Mr Adermann - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

I am not aware of any such proposal.

As I have already announced, deformities in children of Vietnam veterans will be included in the study to be undertaken by the Commonwealth Institute of Health and this will be funded by the Government.

Dr WilliamMcBride has been reported as endorsing the action of the Government in setting up this study.
