Mr Cadman asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs, upon notice, on 2 1 April 1980:

(   1 ) How many officers of his Department are assigned to respond to and prepare evidence for (a) Parliamentary committees, (b) the Commonwealth Ombudsman and (c) the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

(2)   What is the total number of staff of his Department based in Canberra.


Mr Peacock - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(   1 ) No officers of my Department are assigned full-time to respond to or prepare evidence for Parliamentary Committees, the Commonwealth Ombudsman or the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Depending on the subject officers in various parts of the Department prepare material for these bodies in the course of their normal work.

(2)   1,263. This number includes 326 officers of the Australian Development Assistance Bureau.
