Mr Staley -On 20 May 1980 (Hansard, page 2885) Mr Kerin asked me a question without notice asking whether it is a fact that, during the inquiry by the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal on 18 December 1979 into the purchase of the issued capital of Southern Television Corporation Limited, the licensee of NWS-9 Adelaide, Senator Button was misled and denied the opportunity to present further argument regarding possible illegal acts by the News Limited group.

The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

Senator Buttonappeared for the ALP, which was approved by the Tribunal as a party to the inquiry involved. The transcript stands as the official record of the proceedings before the Tribunal. There are remedies available to a party to proceedings before the Tribunal if a party considers that the Tribunal has acted contrary to the law.
