Mr SPEAKER - Order! Does the honourable member claim to have been misrepresented?

Mr COPE - Yes. In reply to a question asked of him, the Prime Minister said that some members of the Opposition supported violence. If he does not exclude me from the term 'some members' I will demand an apology. Otherwise I will say that he is an unmitigated liar.

Mr SPEAKER -Order! The honourable member for Sydney will withdraw that remark.

Mr COPE - No, not unless he does so first.

Mr SPEAKER -The honourable member will withdraw that remark.

Mr COPE - If he withdraws his first. ,

Mr SPEAKER -Order! The honourable member will withdraw the remark.

Mr COPE - No, I will not.

Mr McMahon - Mr Speaker, may I please intervene? I regard the honourable member for Sydney as a valuable member. I do not believe for one moment that he would ever condone violence.

Mr Cope - Now I withdraw my remark.
