Dr Klugman asked the Minister repre senting the Minister for Health, upon notice:

(1)   What are the names of the members of the Council of the Medical Benefits Fund of Australia.

(2)   What are the names of the members of the (a) New South Wales, (b) Queensland and (c) Tasmanian Executive Committee of the Fund.

(3)   What is the method of election or appointment of the Council and Committees.

(4)   How many of the members of each of these bodies are registered medical practitioners.

(5)   What was the (a) total Commonwealth Government contribution in various reimbursements to the Fund, (b) total income of the Fund and (c) surplus of income over expenditure of the Fund for the year ended 30th June 1971.

(6)   What was the (a) value of reserves and (b) market value of investments of the Fund as at 30th June 1971.

(3)   (i) The method of election of medical members to the State Executive Commitee is by ballot Medical members of the Association whose registered place of address is in the State in respect of which such Executive Committees exist are entitled to vote in such elections.

(ii)   The Council appoints contributor's representatives to the respective State Executive Committees (on the recommendations of the respective Committees).

(iii)   Each State Executive Committee nominates, from its members, persons to constitute the Council. The number of persons to be so nominated are:

(5)   (b), (c) (6) (a), (b) The honourable member will be aware that the first Annual Report on the Operations of Registered Medical Benefits and Hospital Benefits Organisations was tabled in Parliament on 18th May 1972. The Report tabulates for each fund the information requested, i.e. contributions and other amounts payable to the fund and the overall surplus or deficit for the 1970-71 financial year, as well as the balance of the fund and the details of the fund's investment portfolio as at 30th June 1971. The value of the investments shown in this Report is the beck value. Total market value shown in the published accounts of the Medical Benefits Fund of Australia Limited is $36,026,675.
