Mr BOWEN (PARRAMATTA, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Attorney-General) -I am aware of the honourable member's interest in this subject; some correspondence has passed between us. The Government is in charge of the position in the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. In answer to the first part of the honourable member's question I refer to the Animals and Birds Protection Ordinance in the Australian Capital Territory, which prohibits the shooting of kangaroos and wallabies. The position is slightly different in the Northern Territory where there is a wildlife conservation and control ordinance which makes it an offence to shoot kangaroos except for the red kangaroo.

Mr McIVOR (GELLIBRAND, VICTORIA) - That is only in keeping with the Government's policy.
