Mr Whitlam asked the Minister for Trade and Industry, upon notice:

1.   What -was the date on which he presented a proposal for an Australian development corporation to the Cabinet?

2.   What were the dates on which the Cabinet asked him to bring further information and particulars to it about his proposal?

3.   Who is the man whom he has appointed, after consultation with the Public Service Board, to make the necessary inquiries, and when did he appoint him?

Mr McEwen - The answers to the honourable member's questions are as follows:

1.   The proposal for an Australian industry development corporation was outlined to Cabinet on 19th July 1966 and described in further details in a paper of 21st July 1966 submitted to the Prime Minister. The full nature and purpose of the proposal was presented to the full Cabinet on 16th March 1967.

2.   16th March 1967 and 6th September 1967

3.   Mr L.J. Dooling, LL.B., B. Com., RA.S.A., A.B.I.A., formerly Chief Manager for Victoria of the Commonwealth Banking Corporation was appointed as Consultant to the Department of Trade and Industry with effect from 3rd April 1967 by Executive Council Minute dated 31st March 1967.
