Mr Hayden asked the Minister representing the Minister for Customs and Excise, upon notice:

1.   What was the value of each of the main items of export to Communist China in each of the past 10 years, and what was the value of each item in each year expressed as a percentage of the total export value of each item?

2.   What was the total value of exports to Communist China in each of the same years, and what was the value of those exports in each year expressed as a percentage of total Australian exports?

Mr Swartz - The Minister for Customs and Excise has furnished the following answer to the honourable members questions:

Details of the values of Australian exports to Mainland China for the years 1957-58 to 1966-67 inclusive are contained in Appendix 'A'. The table also shows the value of each item in each year expressed as a % of the total export value of each item, and the total value of these items in each year expressed as a % of total Australian exports.

These details were compiled from publications and preliminary tabulations provided by the Commonwealth Statistician.
