Mr LUCHETTI (Macquarie) - I support the justifiable remarks of the honourable member for Mackellar (Mr Wentwortb). The Australian nation seems to be going back to its early colonial days, the days of the squatters when the whole countryside was taken over by the land takers. In this instance it is not the land takers but the oil squatters. They have taken over the whole of the continental shelf and the areas off the coast of Australia. This is not good enough. The legislation shows that the Commonwealth is merely a paper tiger. In effect it has no power. It has surrendered that to the States and Bolte can reign supreme in Australia.
