Mr SNEDDEN (BRUCE, VICTORIA) - I address my question to the Attorney-General. I refer to the Speech made by the Governor-General in another place, in which His Excellency announced that the Government intended to review and amend the Bankruptcy Act. I refer particularly to that part of the act which authorizes the issue of a bankruptcy notice for a proved debt of £50. This procedure has been widely used in recent years as a debt-collecting instrument, instead of as the initial step in a drastic legal process designed to deprive the bankrupt of a great many of his civil rights. What action has been taken to amend this provision and other provisions of the bankruptcy legislation?
