Mr Ward d asked the Minister for Supply, upon notice -

1.   How many persons are at present employed at the St. Mary's ammunition filling factory?

2.   What percentage of full capacity does present production represent?

3.   What percentage of full capacity has actual output represented in each year since production at the factory commenced?

4.   What has been the value of production in each year since the factory was established?


Mr Hulme - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

1.   Present employment is 968. 2 and 3. As explained in answer to previous questions the St. Mary's factory was designed to meet war needs and would operate at full capacity only in the event of war.

4.   Expenditure on production was - JanuaryJune, 1958, £152,000; 1958-59, £584,000; July, 1959, to March, 1960, £498,000.
