2.   What was the (a) occasion and (b) amount contributed in each instance?

3.   How much has the Commonwealth contributed since 1950 on a £1 for £1 basis or on any other basis?

4.   What was the (a) occasion and (b) amount contributed in each instance?

5.   Does the Government intend to set up a national disaster fund?

Mr Harold Holt - The following table sets out the amounts contributed by the Commonwealth since 1950-51 as specific grants to assist State Governments to meet expenditures arising from natural disasters. In each case the Commonwealth contribution was provided on a £1 for £1 basis with the State Government concerned.

When the establishment of a " National Disaster Fund " was discussed at a Premiers' Conference in March, 1959, the general feeling of the Premiers was found to be against such a step.
