Mr Cairns s asked the Minister for Supply, upon notice -

What has been spent by (a) the United Kingdom and (b) Australia on the Blue Streak missile?

Mr Hulme (PETRIE, QUEENSLAND) (Minister for Supply) - The answer to the honorable member's question is as follows: -

(a)   The United Kingdom Minister for Defence stated in the House of Commons on 13th April that the costs to the United Kingdom of Blue Streak were about £65,000,000 sterling, (b) Since the Blue Streak project commenced in Australia, expenditure has been committed on Blue Streak to the extent of approximately £11,000,000 (Australian), (c) This £11,000,000 formed part of the overall joint project costs in Australia. Since 1956, the United Kingdom has met Australian expenditure in excess of £9,500.000 (Australian), and it is not practicable to make a dissection between the United Kingdom and Australia of Blue Streak expenditure for the Australian range.
