Mr CURTIN (KINGSFORD-SMITH, NEW SOUTH WALES) - I ask the Minister for Primary Industry: Will sugar crops in Queensland be harvested this year by mechanical means? Are mechanical means also used extensively in the bulk handling of sugar generally, resulting in the displacement of man-power to an alarming degree? Was the present retail price of sugar fixed before the introduction of mechanical cane harvesting, modern mill machinery, and the bulk handling of sugar? If so, and in view of the great saving made through the use of modern methods of production, does the Minister propose to take steps to reduce the retail price of sugar to an appropriate economic level?
