Mr FREETH (FORREST, WESTERN AUSTRALIA) (Minister for the Interior) - I am happy to be able to tell the honorable member for Perth that in response to a request by the Lord Mayor of Perth to the Prime Minister, the Department of Works has approached the contractor and has arrived at a very satisfactory arrangement for the building to be completed, it is hoped, about six months ahead of the originally projected date. It was intended that the building would be completed in 1961. We now hope to have it completed by some time in June, 1960. An arrangement to this effect has been concluded with the Postmaster-General's Department, and the Treasury has agreed to meet the considerable extra cost involved. I think the extra cost will be about £30,000 or £40,000. In view of the real need to assist the Lord Mayor to have a suitable town hall and municipal buildings in which to welcome the participants in the Empire Games, we felt that that was a desirable course to take.
