Mr SPEAKER -I should like to thank honorable members for the compliment they have paid me in re-electing me as Speaker. I assure you, gentlemen, that I am deeply aware of the obligations that I have accepted. I am aware of my shortcomings but, with the help of God, and with the tolerance and understanding of all honorable members, I hope that we shall be able to maintain the dignity of the Parliament and proceed, with the business of the House in harmony.

Presentation to the Governor-General'.

Mr. MENZIES(Kooyong- Prime Minister). - I have ascertained that it will be the pleasure of His Excellency the GovernorGeneral to receive you, Mr. Speaker, in the Library of the Parliament at approximately 2.46 p.m. this day.


Mr SPEAKER - Prior to my presentation to His Excellency the GovernorGeneral this afternoon the bells will be rung for three minutes so that any honorable members who may desire to do- so may attend in the chamber and accompany me and, if they so wish, be introduced to His Excellency.

Mr SPEAKER - I have to report that, accompanied by honorable members, I this day proceeded to the Library of the Parliament and presented myself to His Excellency the Governor-General as the choice of the House, and that His Excellency was kind enough to congratulate me on my election as Speaker.
