Mr WHITLAM (WERRIWA, NEW SOUTH WALES) - I ask the Minister for the Interior whether he can say when the inter-departmental committee on civil defence is expected to decide how this year's civil defence appropriation should be spent. I further ask the Minister whether he will impress on the committee how urgent the matter has become in view of the recommendation by the New South Wales Director of Civil Defence, MajorGeneral Dougherty - a former member of the Military Board - that his State should cease to be represented on the CommonwealthState Civil Defence Committee until the Commonwealth makes a clear and unequivocal statement on its civil defence plans, or at least takes the CommonwealthState committee into its confidence.
