Mr COUTTS (GRIFFITH, QUEENSLAND) - I address to the Minister for Primary Industry a question dealing with the shipping and sale of beef to the United Kingdom. Is it a fact, as claimed by the Conference shipping lines, that beef is being carried to the United Kingdom for less than the freight cost to the ship-owner? Is it also a fact, as claimed by the Graziers Federal Council, that the Conference shipping lines enjoy a monopoly of the carriage of beef to the United Kingdom, under legislation passed by the Commonwealth Parliament? Has the Graziers Federal Council made representations to the Government seeking the repeal of the legislation establishing that monopoly? At what stage are the negotiations regarding the shipping and sale of Australian beef to the United Kingdom?
