Mr Luchetti i asked the Minister for Territories, upon notice -

1.   How many (a) natives, (b) Europeans, (c) Asians and (d) mixed bloods have paid the poll tax in each district of the Territory of Papua and New Guinea?

2.   What has been the (a) yield of the tax in each district and (b) total tax collected?


Mr Hasluck - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

Broadcasting in Papua and New Guinea.


Mr Bryant t asked the Postmaster-General, upon notice -

What plans are in hand to increase the power and scope of the broadcasting service in Papua and New Guinea?


Mr Davidson - The answer to the honorable member's question is as follows: -

It is proposed to increase the power of national medium frequency station 9PA Port Moresby from 500 watts to 2,000 watts and the power of national high frequency station VLT Port Moresby from 2,000 watts to 10,000 watts.
