Mr BEAZLEY (FREMANTLE, WESTERN AUSTRALIA) - I direct the attention of the Minister for Civil Aviation to claims that have been made that because of the adoption of turbo-jets in De Havilland Comets, British civil aviation airliners are now far in advance of the types that the United States of America can supply. According to a statement that appeared in the Australian press recently this type of aircraft will not be available in Australia until 1952. Will the Minister inform the House whether that is true? If so, has the Department of Civil Aviation made any representations to, or engaged in any consultations with, British manufacturers to see if there could be a more speedy sale of such aircraft to Australia?
