Sir NEVILLE HOWSE - The replies to the honorable member's questions are as follow: -

1.   Yes.

2.   Sevenpence per mile when chauffeur is provided. One shilling per mile when no chauffeur is provided.

3.   The right honorable the Prime Minister and the Minister for Home and Territories are the only Ministers who have their own cars in Canberra.

4.   Information is not available as to amounts paid in respect of running in the Federal Capital Territory as the payment of mileage allowance to a Minister for the use of his own car on official business is not restricted to the Federal Capital Territory. The amounts accruing to the right honorable the Prime Minister and to the Minister for Home and

Territories for the past six months are £240 1s. 9d. and £212 15s. 7d., respectively. These amounts cover all running for official use, inclusive of a considerable mileage outside the Territory, and also the conveyance of departmental officers in circumstances where otherwise heavy expense would be incurred for railway fares, and other transport expenses.
