Dr MALONEY (MELBOURNE, VICTORIA) asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Has his attention been drawn to the statement of Sir Robert Donald in the Daily Mail, London, that the polar ship Discovery had "cost £317,500 for nothing"?

2.   Will he have a statement, in simple language for the average person to understand, made of the advantages of Polar exploration to scienceor humanity, so that if any further subscriptions are sought from the public, they will understand whether it is worthy of support?
