Mr FORDE asked the Minister for Trade and Customs, upon notice -

1.   What were the total' quantities and value of importations of (a) fruit juices, and (b) Italian lemons for the years 1926-27 and 1927-28, and from what countries were such importations made?

2.   Is it a fact that such importations are affecting the Australian fruit-growers, and, if so, will he see that they are afforded adequate protection ?

Mr BRUCE - The replies to the honorable member's questions are as follow : -

(b)   The imports of lemons of Italian origin in 1927-28 amounted to 5,413 centals, value £11,282. Lemons were not separately recorded in 1920-27.

2.   There are already duties on both fruit juices and lemons. Any alteration in such duties could only be effected after public inquiry and report by the Tariff Board.
