Sir NEVILLE HOWSE - On 1st June, the honorable member for Darling (Mr. Blakeley) asked the Minister for Health the following questions: -

1.   Whether he will outline the provisions for the training of doctors in the use of radium?

2.   What procedure is to be adopted with regard to the distribution of Commonwealth radium ?

3.   What quantity has arrived in Australia?

4.   When will the order be finalized?

5.   Will he make available a supply of radium to the Broken Hill Hospital and to hospitals in the central positions in the western portion of New South Wales?

I am now able to supply the following information : -

1.   The training will be given by postgraduate lectures, by hospital lectures, and by clinical demonstrations on patients.

2.   The radium is being distributed to hospitals under agreements whereby the hospital undertakes to provide the necessary accommodation and to maintain the necessary standard of treatment.

3.   9872.50 milligrammes.

4.   The remaining small quantity will arrive during June.

5.   Provision will be made for the distribution to certain of these hospitals, of either a supply of radium element or radium emanation, as soon as the practical details of distribution have been finalized.
