Mr HUGHES - I did not see the newspaper paragraph referred to, but I understand that such a census is being taken. If this work is to be done at all it must be done uniformly throughout Australia, and with the machinery which we shall ask the House to agree to to-day. Of course, any co-operation on the part of the States will be very acceptable, but I do not think that the Commonwealth can be expected to postpone consideration of the War Census Bill, or to deal with this important matter in a piecemeal fashion.
