Mr FOWLER asked the Assistant Minister representing the Minister of Defence, upon notice -

1.   Is it a fact that the residence of the Engineer in Charge at Cockburn Sound has been furnished by, and at the expense of, the Commonwealth Government?

2.   Are there any other instances of furniture being supplied to Commonwealth officers' homes; and, if so, what is the rule in regard to this matter?


Mr JENSEN - The answers to the honorable member's questions are -

1.   Yes.

2.   Yes; it is customary for a charge to be made at the rate of 7£ per cent, per annum on the value of such furniture. " Financial Regulation 35 (a) for the Naval Forces deals with the matter.
