Mr SPENCE - The answer to the honorable member's question is -

The Deputy Postmasters-General have been directed to inquire into each case in which a mail contractor claims to have been put to additional expense in carrying out his contract by reason of drought conditions, and, where the circumstances justify it, to immediately suitably increase the payments to the contractor, as from 1st January, 1915.

Mr PATTEN asked the PostmasterGeneral, upon notice -

What number of mail contractors in New South Wales have been adversely affected by the curtailment of railway services in that State?

Mr SPENCE - Inquiry is being made, and a reply will be furnished as early as possible.
