Mr GROOM asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   In giving effect to the policy of preference to unionists in the temporary employment of the Commonwealth, is the following a cor rect statement of the procedure: - "The mode of procedure was for the Departments to notify the secretary of the unions of vacancies. It was then necessary for the union secretaries to supply the labour ? "

2.   What is the principle which determines the recognition by the Government of the particular union to which such preference is given ?

3.   What principle does the official of the union preferred act upon in the selection of men to fill vacancies in such temporary employments?
