Mr GREGORY asked the Minister of Home Affairs, upon notice -

1.   What was the original estimated cost of the construction of the Transcontinental Railway?

2.   Did this estimate include any provision for -

(a)   Contractor's plant; if. so, what amount ?

(b)   Water supplies; if so, what amount?

3.   What was the original estimated period for the completion of the line? 4. (a) When was work started at the Port Augusta end?

(b)   When was work started at the Kalgoorlie end?

5.   What has been the total cost to date, inclusive of all expenditure on contractor's plant, rolling-stock, water supplies, &c?

6.   How many miles have been completed -

(a)   Of earthworks?

(b)   Of platelayihg?

(c)   Of ballasting?

7.   What will be the total mileage of the railway from Port Augusta to Kalgoorlie?
