Mr DUGALD THOMSON (NORTH SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for Home Affairs) - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow : - 1, 2, and 4. No authority has been given for the insertion of the word "permanent" in Form A, nor is it known that it has been inserted. 3 and 5. Yes, if it has been inserted.

6.   Yes, if it be shown that names have been improperly excluded. Instructions to the police for canvass Nos. 11, 12, and 13 are as follow : -

11.   The name of such persons on each roll as are ascertained to be dead, or to have permanently removed from the Division for which they are enrolled, should be ruled through, and the words " dead " or " left the Division," as the case may be, written in the margin opposite thereto, upon the roll.

12.   The collector should be careful not to suggest the omission of the name of any person who may be only temporarily absent from the district for which he is entitled to be enrolled, and which forms his permanent or continuous residence.

13.   The same care should be exercised to prevent the enrolment of persons only temporarily resident.
