Mr BAMFORD (HERBERT, QUEENSLAND) asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Whether he is aware that it has been the usual practice for British vessels of war when coaling at Thursday Island to employ longshore labour ?

2.   Further, is he awaiting.that the Pylades and Cadmus when recently : oaling at the above place did not employ any water-side labour whatever ?

3.   Can he assign any reason for this departure from what has hitherto been the custom at the port of Thursday Island?
